2015 Ad Campaign Favorites from Our Staff!

Published by Martin Communications

2015 was a great year for marketing campaigns.  Brands worked hard to cut through the clutter and grab their audience’s attention. From adorable animals that make us laugh to some truly hilarious campaigns that deal with not-so-funny issues, the Martin staff named their favorite ad/campaign picks from this year!  Check them out below:

Laura McAliley, PR and Social Director

Brand:  Squatty Potty

Not only is it witty and funny (I mean, who doesn't love a unicorn pooping ice cream). It also offers an educational message about a topic that most people don't want to talk about. The information is clear and easily understandable while being hilarious.

Jatana Clevenger, Account Services Director

Brand:  Subaru

My pick is the Subaru Bucket List commercial with the dog.  I'm in the heart of their demo and I choke up on their commercials every time - this one I can't even watch.  Or, they at least make me chuckle (like the new "tree hugger" commercial).  Then there is the one with the dad thinking back on the little girl growing up as he is about to pass down his Subaru.  Usually for Forrester or Outlander, both Crossovers that would be something I'd consider.

Victoria James, PR and Social Media Coordinator

Brand:  Android

One of my favorite ads from 2015 has got to be this one from Android called Friends Furever.  They pair unlikely animal friends (which are adorable) and show them having a grand time playing together and having fun adventures.  I love it for the animals and the song that plays in the background.  And, the message is right on target- it communicates the popular idea (especially with Millennials) that people want a sense of community, but also want to be their own individual with distinctive characteristics and qualities.  It's quirky and sweet and it works with the Android brand.

Lorrie Gustin, Creative Director

Brand:  Extra Gum

This commercial caused widespread (and unexpected) tugging at heartstrings last year when it ran. It did mine. Hopeless romantic that I am.

It's just about a stick of gum, isn't it? Ummm.... nope.

It's about that "Extra" special way you feel when you meet the love of your life. It's about the "Extra" quality time you spend with that someone. It's about the "Extra" things you do for each other when you're in love. It's about the "Extra" strong feelings you have when you miss someone. And it's about the "Extra" creative way that years of "Extra" effort can lead to something "Extra" AMAZING.

Makes me want to go buy gum. Now.

Rebecca Martin, Graphic Designer

Brand: Poo Pourri

This is my favorite commercial from 2015. It’s catchy and also funny. I get this song stuck in my head every time I see this ad. It is very over the top for the type of product that it is selling. However, because of the large spectacle it makes I find my self actually googling this commercial just to watch it. I see this ad on Youtube and it’s one of the few commercials that I don't instantly skip.

Jodie Lehman, Communications Specialist

Brand: Chevy

It was tough to pick one, but my very favorite is also a TV ad.

I thought the Chevy "Blackout" :30 commercial that ran during the Superbowl was evil genius. Viewers everywhere thought their TV signals had been lost - until Chevy imposed words on a black screen with perfectly-timed messaging to sell their Colorado mid-size truck, with 4G LTE Wi-fi. Then you see the black truck, set to AC/DC's "Back in Black."

I like that it attracted attention - in an ad environment where it's tough to stand-out.  Viewers reacted on social media - and even better - the ad was considered a success because Colorado web traffic surged for a period of time and social media perception was overwhelmingly positive. Turns out, sports fans can take a joke.

I'm a Ford girl, but this commercial even made me want a Chevy truck.

Did you love these ads too?  Which ones were your favorites?
